Republic Aviation was an American aircraft manufacturer founded in 1931 as the Seversky Aircraft Company before being reorganized in 1939. Based in Farmingdale, New York, it became famous for producing military aircraft, including the P-47 Thunderbolt, one of the most effective fighters of World War II. The company also developed the F-84 Thunderjet and F-105 Thunderchief, which played key roles in the Korean War and Vietnam War. In 1965, Republic Aviation was acquired by Fairchild Aircraft, marking the end of its independent operations.
