The Detroit Arsenal, located in Warren, Michigan, was the first U.S. facility built specifically for mass-producing tanks and played a pivotal role in World War II as part of the “Arsenal of Democracy.” Designed by Albert Kahn and operated by Chrysler, it produced iconic tanks like the M3 Lee and M4 Sherman, and later the M1 Abrams. Though tank production ceased in 1996, part of the site remains an active Army installation, housing the U.S. Army CCDC Ground Vehicle Systems Center and TACOM Life Cycle Management Command, which focus on military vehicle research, development, and logistics.
