Supermarine was a British aircraft manufacturer, best known for producing the legendary Spitfire fighter during World War II. Founded in 1913 as Pemberton-Billing Ltd, it was later renamed Supermarine Aviation Works Ltd. The company initially specialized in seaplanes and flying boats, winning the Schneider Trophy three times in 1927, 1929, and 1931. In 1928, it was acquired by Vickers-Armstrongs, and continued to design aircraft under the Vickers Supermarine name. Besides the Spitfire, Supermarine developed aircraft like the Seafire (naval Spitfire variant), Spiteful, Seafang, and the Walrus flying boat. The company was eventually merged into British Aircraft Corporation (BAC) in 1960, marking the end of the Supermarine name.
